Ford recalling more than 655,000 Ford F-150 and Lincoln Mark LT pickup trucks to fix a hose

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Ford Motor Co. is recalling more than 655,000 Ford F-150 and Lincoln Mark LT pickup trucks to fix a hose that could affect the vehicles' braking power.

The automaker is issuing the recall of 2005-2006 versions of the trucks with 5.4 liter 3-valve engines. That's according to a posting Wednesday on the Web site of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Ford spokesman Wes Sherwood says more than 600,000 of the trucks are in the United States and about 50,000 are in Canada. About 1,500 are in other countries around the world.

Ford says there have been 11 minor accidents and no injuries tied to the issue.

Dealers will replace the hose at no charge to consumers. Owners are expected to be notified in late June, and the recall is expected to begin in July.

For more information, owners can contact Ford at (800) 392-3673.

lol this is nothing major, it just means that all those models made it out before the issue was acknowledged. You guys do realize that every car has its recalls, right? Surprisingly the metro only had 1 recall which was about the hood. Just because one recall gets announced doesnt mean the end of the world. Actually, I believe GM has more recalls than Ford, and Toyota has the fewest amount of recalls. All it means is free service

And major costs for the company. Usually, while it is costly to make errors during production (and it happens for every company) it is FAR better to find it before vehicles are on the road. Preferably, it should be found and corrected before the vehicles even leave the assembly line (issues like, say, not torquing head bolts enough). Even an issue like that is very costly, since the entire production line has to be shut down while the errant parts are fixed. If it reaches this point, it probably will cost the company several MILLION dollars. Think about it - $110/hr, say 2hrs labor per vehicle, $220/vehicle. Now, only 75% of vehicles show up, let's assume 50%, though. So, that's ~350,000 vehicles * 220/vehicle, so total cost of $77,000,000. That's 77 Million Dollars, assuming about 50% of the vehicles show up, 2hrs labor, and no part cost.

Yeah a recall doesn't mean its unreliable vehicle. Just a defective part it made bad, like my moms toyota sequoia on ball joint suspension thing. Right Patrick?

yeah, you are likely to see a recall for every vehicle produced. Yeah it costs the company money, but it something they have to be prepared for. I was actually surprised when my metro only had the 1 recall mentioned before
