no, a cold air intake will not increase your gas mileage, in fact it will help it. The reason being is cold air is more dense, therefore it contains more oxygen molecules per cubic inch of air. With more oxygen in the incoming air, less fuel is required for combustion. The added molecules also result in a more complete combustion, resulting in added power and less oxygen in the exhaust for the O2 sensor to read, which also results in less fuel needed. Now I know this may sound like a lot, but you will only be looking to get 1-3 MPG added, and roughly 5HP added in most cases.

With that said, cold weather is WORSE for gas mileage. The reason being is that the motor will run richer to warm up to opperating temperature. The O2 sensor will also not be read until the motor is warmed up. Ever start a motor and hear it rev higher than what it will after driving it a while? This is because the motor is running rich, it creates a higher idle.

Another note is that the stock air box also tries to draw in cold air, there will be a pipe that connects to the fender or front of the vehicle, but isnt as efficient about air draw

There are plenty of other details about air/fuel ratios I can add, but that would be excessive lol

Oh, and with you saying gas being $3.45 on regular, if your car specifies a higher octane, do NOT cheap out or you will run in to a load of problems that will drive you crazy

Thanks for all tip. Well my car uses regular gas anyways. I would imagine that my car wouldn't take regular, specially I have heavy foot. lol Yeah my car does it too it revs alittle higher about one minute then it goes down. When l leave the car to warm up.

around here it's 3.50 on average. by the way, something to make ya all mad... in Trinidad, a small island in the southern caribbean, who imports everything and has a weak economy compared to ours, is paying 2.50 a gallon. The us is the largest consumer of oil in the world... no bulk discount?????

Nope.

The worst part is, for diesel anyways, they talked about how they had to bump prices up in the winter for Winter Blend, and now they're bumping prices up "because we're getting back to summer fuel". WHAT THE FUCK!?!

Oh, and btw - $3.95 is the best I've seen in months for diesel. Right now it's $4.35 in my local area. Then again, I'm in the 25+ MPG range with 8600lb truck.

well, here in mount olive, nc where around 3.45 per gallon regular gas. it sucks. we need to invent some type of gas what we can use for a cheaper price, at least for older vehicles.
