ahh so you use a filter element rather than an entire filter, I could imagine the pita that would be. All my cars use the entire "side of the motor" filters, to which I love purolator PureONE filters. I decided to give them a try, having been using bosche filters, and I absolutely love them. On my celica, although its a clean motor, after 1500 miles of driving my oil still looks brand new, and my ranger has one to which the oil looks brand new too. I recently did an oil change on the geo, but that will be harder to tell considering the dip stick has been colored a deep color, but I will see how it is after so long. I've tinkered with many different oils, pennzoil, quakerstate, castrol GTX, and valvoline. pennzoil and quakerstate seemed to make no difference, but when I tried castrol my grand prix loved it, so I stuck with it. I recently decided to try valvoline since it is immensely popular, and my celica liked it, so thats what I am using right now although I may stick with castrol for the grand prix to help clean out its sludge issue

Hey Patrick, do remember that I told u have problems starting the car sometimes? Well my brother says it would been the oil. U see when i went to toyota once to change oil, they added 5-30w instead 5-20. They said it won't do harm to engine. Maybe the 5-30w was a little thick for my engine? Oh yeah i changed the oil yesterday and added 5-20w. Man i the oil is so clear almost can't see from dip stick. lol

Well, I use the usual fram oil filter. Trusted them forever, so not going to change now. As far as oil... AMSOIL, it's pricey as hell since i get the synthetic stuff, but it's pretty much one oil change per year. it's good for 6 months or 25,000 miles. So one per season, i can live with the 90 dollar price tag.

sorry for the late response, but, does your engine with the 5w20 now start perfectly fine and with the 5w30 struggled a little? It is possible, 30 is when the oil is its thickest and 5 is when its at its weakest. Is it giving you any problems now?

and the filter was $6 bucks for that cause its an diff tape

its just an filter,no metel casing

20w50 is some pretty thick oil, why exactly are you doing this? Is it recommended at all? If it isnt, I wouldnt, you will be starving your motor for oil during warm up and even when warmed up it wont flow as efficiently as it should. I for one dont trust fram filters, they are cheap for a reason, but to each their own.

Actually no, it seems running smooth like it speeds up quick to 100mph. I got wait and let see if does.

i use thicker oil cause the car got alot of miles and leaks a lil from time to time

and plus i used it before with no trouble...

if i ahd an newer car then i was use an lil lower...but with high milage and etc,i tend to run an lil ticker oil

and plus i have the lucas oil treament in with it

if you are gonna bump up the viscosity, do it by only a little bit. Have you felt how thick 10w30 is? 20w50 is about twice as thick. As I said, you will be starving your motor of oil for a few seconds which isnt good. You may not notice trouble now, but you may down the road. Only thing is the parts that are going to get the oil will be good and protected. My ranger and geo are rated 5w30, I use 10w30 to make sure I have that added protection that wont cause any harm. Remember your oil pump isnt designed to pump that high viscous oil either. And lucas's oil treatment only helps the oil cling better, but doesnt alter the way the oil works. If you feel your car is better off with that oil, I cant stop you, but Im just saying its not something Id recommend. It also may be robbing you of some of your power because of its resistance to move, its one reason why they try to use thinner oils. Just so you know though, 20w50 compared to 10w30 isnt just a little thicker, its a lot thicker, and it doesnt matter how old the motor is, it depends on how worn out it is, my celica is over 222k and still kickin ass

i know how think the oil is

but the engine is well worn for some punk having it

and hp...hahaha
i got my car set up for fuel milage, not hp
well i could change it but i wont be getting that 40 miles an gallon anymore

so last thing i am worried about at the moment is wasting more gas then i need to with the way gas prices are right now

was 3,45 tursday
then $3.50 yesterday
so yea ,hp i aint worried about
but keeping that engine running and tuned

as i said,if i know the engine could woprk on lighter oil i whould use it
but since people like to beat cars up.i gotta use thicker oil to protect it and keep it from lockin up

unlike my accliam,i beat it up so bad,,,50/50 oil didnt even work for that

you dont seem to understand, the resitance to motion will also hurt your gas mileage, having that extra power helps because then the motor doesnt have to work as hard to maintain proper speed.

ur not understand wut i am saying

i have no power anyways

the motrer has some high milage from rough abuse

if the moter was in better shape i whould use thinner oil

but its not

in my dads cav yea its ok to use 5/20 oil and etc

but in mines its not from abuse and it leaks...the thicker oil prevents it from leaking so much

but i am done with this cause ur not understand me and u dont know how rough my car been abuse
not from me,the previous owner
i learned my lesson from tearing up cars
so i gave up

umm I am understanding what you're saying, but you are obviously not getting what Im saying, yeah I understand your car is worn out, but hey dont listen to me. What part of what you were saying did I not understand anyway? Maybe you completely ignored what I said about the parts that were getting the oil will be extra protected, but they will still be starved more during warm up which will increase engine wear, warm up is the harshest part on a motor

was it very hard to get to the filter? If you let it drain for 24 hours you can legally throw it in the trash, I do that then run the oil to autozone to be dumped
